THE GLEANER
The Juniom did not fare so well. They cheerfully took a 30-0 defeat and were asking for more at the end Of the game. Owen Sound had weight and experience on our fellows who fought gamely all the way. Hartle and Tilley at the outsides were good, but the line was too light and the back field inex- perienced.
Owen Sound at Collingwood
Owen Sound played the return game hoping to reverse the tables on our Seniors, but it was all for naught. The final score was 9-5 in our favor. Owen Sound scored a field goal and a safety touch. "Red" Fryer did some superb kicking and scored four points on a kick to the dead line and three rouges. "Sleepy" Johnston accounted for the other five points when he plunged over the Owen Sound line tCl score a touch.
Collingwood at Barrie
Barrie only had one team in their school this year. After a hard fought game our Juniors were victorious by 7-6. At half time Barrie led by 6-2 and retained this lead until three minutes before the final whistle. The break came when Arnold picked up a blocked kick near the Barrie line and dodged his way through to score the necessary five points. Holden, Fryer and Hughes were our best.
Barrie at Collingwood
When Barrie came for the return game they also brought opposition for our Seniors in the form of an 0. R. F. U. team. The Seniors expected a defeat, but went into the game with the same determination that had marked their victories over Owen Sound and emerged on top of a 9-6 score. The in- terference of our line held the Barrie backfield well in check. Brown and Butters at outsides stopped all Barrie's attempts at extends and "Red" Fryer outkicked the reputed Carson of Bar- rie. Barrie scored a touch on an onside kick and later added one point on a rouge. Culham scored a touch for the locals when he split the Barrie line wide open and waltzed across the touch line. Fryer did some wonderful kicking and scored the other four
points by the aerial route.
The rival Juniors played a great game and were so evenly
matched that the final score was 10-10. Barrie scored two touchdowns on plunges, while the locals also counted two touch- downs. Thompson scored on a plunge for Collingwood, Hartle, the swift outside, scored the other on a long run from centre field.
The Junior Players:-
"Bus" Herrington--Centre Half. Small but wiry.
Mil. Thompson-Right Half. Big with a nifty straight arm. Mick. Beynon-Left Half. Reliable and a good tackle.
Phil Bedenham-Backfield. Could fill any position.
