THE STUDENT COUNCIL
Although other schools and colleg- es have had a student governing body known as a student council, this year was the Collingwood Col- legiate's first attempt to consolidate the various school organizations.
A representative was JSeJJII; from each of the Literary Soc,iety, Girls' and Boys' Athletic Society, Social Committee and Editorial Staff. The head of the oouncil was named as the President of Form V and two teachers were added to the assem- blage to ac't in an advisory capacity.
This year the council's first duty was to drr.w up a constitution. After a great deal of work and considera- tion of the clauses and by-laws pre- sented, the job was completed and the finished article is now on file in the office for any student ·to read. Since the procedure of meetings of the Council follows that of Town Councils or other governing bodies,
the cons.titution naturally reads somewhat as the by-laws of the Town. This may seem unnecessary to
a great number of the students, but to those on the oouncil it gives a sound, practical basis on which to start a life which touches any cor- poration work. It is also necessary to · give the .proper authority for such acts as the council may perform.
This year because of a shortage M funds, due to the deoreased at- tendance at both this and last year's Commencements, the council has not been able to accomplish many things it would like to do and which would have added much interest to the student affairs.
In one or two more years, how- ever, it is expected that the Student Council will become more and more active, but it can only do so througi::J. the whole-hearted support of Student Body. "Shakes" Arthur, V.
