"THE GLEANER"
THE LAST YAP
Here we are again on the last page of our second annual Year Book. All the copy has been rounded up, the last proof has been read, the last photo has been snapped, the editors have had their last argument and I simply must have the last word.
You know, sometimE's
editors see the gorgeous covers and the pages after pages of cuts in oth- er year books from larger schools we are apt to become discouraged and to say "Boy, but I wish I was in a big school like that.'' Hwoever, \v"hfTI I come to think it over, 1 don't know whether I wish I was or not. For one thing, I'd probably be a mere reporter·lost in the rush. Then again, if I was the editor I'd have so much money to' use that I'd miss the thrill of just clearing the closely
pared limit set by my hard-headed Business Manager after I have spent weeks of planning where, and why a.nd how. No, sir. I don't think I envy the "big" editor at all. I at least, have an air tight excuse for not win- ning, "The Star Shield" for the best
yearl book. I t goes somE!thing like this.
"Oh, yes. We'd have won that for sure, only you see, we're such a small school and the school that won was nearly three times our size.'' The poor editor of the big year book can't say that. He's got to think up something better. It looks as though I've hit it "pretty soft", excuse.s all
ready 'n everything. I'd better call
off these ramblings and get down to the business of finishing this 1931 Year Book or we won't be off the press before examination time.
Tut! tut! Now I've done it! Some- body's always taking the joy out of life aren't they? Well, as I said be- fore I'd better get busy and not make any more "breaks" like that.
Among- our contributors from the Rchool this year are Howard Gamble. Mary Manson, Mary Wiseman, and others. lVLarv Wiseman's poeml "The First Snow" deserves especial credit and I am sure will be quite as popu- lar as the one she wrote last year.
Sev€ral members Of the C. C. .r. family in contributing to our travel section have given the boo"lc four very
interesting and instructive articles. Read them and see for yourself.
Our Business Manag;er this year is G€orge Shipley and Pete Bern- hardt is his assistant. They both worked hard and much of the suc- cess of this book is due to themL
We wo11ld also like to thank Misses Brown, V anzant and McNabb who tvped reams of copy and letters for the editors and business managers.
· Before I sign off, M.r. Basil Ham- ilton of the Hamilton studio deserv- es our thanks. All the photos in this book of the teams and organizations were taken by him!. Thank you, Mr.
Hamilton.
