        The Chairman~s Message
The staff and students of our Collegiate Institute are to be congratulated on their efforts in producing the school journal-"The Gleaner." The educational value to the students who partici'Pated in its production is beyond question, while to its readers it portrays to a large extent the life of the school.
It should be very gratifying to the citizens of Collingwood and the surrounding district 'that the Puiblic Schools and Col- legiate Institute maintain such a splendid standard of education in our community. It has always been the supreme effort of the Board of Education from year to Y.ear to keep our schools efficiently statfed and equipped. A Grammar School was in existence here as early as 1857. Our Collegiate is one of the oldest in the province, being established in 1879. It has always enjoyed a high standing in the province and counts among its graduates outstanding citizens in aH walks of life.
May I suggest to the students the value of having a definite obj-ect in view and in pressing onward at ·all times toward that goal. We live at a time when education is a necessity in order to be successtul in whatever calling may lbe chosen.
Of our graduates we expect great thing,s. We know their ability and we believe that they have the character, to accept the challenge and to persevere to the end, making the necessary sacrifice of pleasure to achieve their noblest ambitions. We hope too, that having won success, they will ever lbe loyal to their Alma Mat-er and ever ready to advance her highest interests.
On behalf of the members of the Collingwood Board of Ed- ucation I have pleasure in ex- tending greetings to the staff and students of the school.
"This albove all; to llhine own self be tr'lle,
And it m'll-st fonow, as the night the day
Thou canst not tihen tbe false to !llny man." 'S:hakesiPeare.
