,, One day, while Nancy was reading Q book on her front veranda, she glanoed
up to think over a part of her story she had just read. It was then that she pot'iced two cars speeding, one cif which was on ·the wrong side of the :r;'oad. Wit,h- in a feW eeconds, there was the screeching of brakes and then ~ crash.
Mftny slower drivers pulled to a stop outside to see whether they: c.ould be ~ of any help to the injured people. ,
Tl1e driver that had kept on his own side was not seriously injured. He was eut and suffered from shock. The p~ssenger, Jim Davis, a young man of, about ~wenty-one, was suffering from shock only.
i Nancy was ninetee'n and tra ining for a nurse. Seeing the accident, she hurried Qut to the road to see whether she could he of any assistance.
: She offered to keep Jim Davis at her home as her patient. Nancy's sisters and
ijlother oould not go near the patient and kept constantly saying he would bring her troubles of which they wanted no part.' ,
Later, after he recovered a bit, he just gazed .lankly into space. With daily

Jim got a job at a store in town and rented a room on th e outskirts. One week

Then, one weekend, 8S Nancy returned from Nursing School in the near.by city, she was surprised to meet her friend on t,he front veranda.
"I've been waiting for you," said Sal~y, Nancy~s girlfriend.
"Why?" asked Nancy.
" "I've got something to tell you about Jim Davis. He walked out on his \,!i;f'e .and left her with twins to support alone. She said she was coming to get him ,an,d~u€

< "I don't believe it!" gasped Nancy.

Nancy turned andwent into the living-room and said, "She's come!".-
Then she turned on her heel and returned to the kitchen. 4fter ',a few minutes,
