In September , 1957, the band began the 'f i rst full year under the capable direction of Mr. Hollier. A formal cC'~,stitut:i:on, which set forth the pOlicies, rules, and
regulations of the band, was drawn up b~T the members of the executive.. By this
oonstitution, band standards were raised, and the organization was made entirely independent from the Students' Council.
Most of the plans made by the eXGcu~,.:j::ve" for concerts and projects have surpassed even the wildest dreams of the l~r~jGity coavoner&~ in spite of the Asian 'flu' and
a certain February snowstorm. All in all, the band has enjoyed a wonderful year - thank~ to Mr. Hollier, and the support of ~IT. Peat, the Board, the teachers, and the students of the C.D.C.I.
THE BAND Cahnda:r June, 1957. 'Y.dE LONIx)N FESTIVAL
The band won a second prize in each of the two classes entered. Each member ~herefore received two silver medals for ยท taking part in these classes. Everyone enjoyed this festival. , The band members were billeted, overnight in London's Beal
Tech. ba.Ad members' hom.es . The hosts showed London to be the truly hospitable city, it is, by this and many other gestures.

The' Commencement Exercises, which were held during the first week of school, began kh~ fe-li term. i"lith only tvJO practices between this night and the previous June, the band creditably performed all the musical numbers required for the evening.
October, 1957 MARCHING BAND ,
The C.D.C.I. Marching Band was organized from the Concert Band to help pep up f.)otball games. Only one game was played for, however, since the Asian 'flu' put band ,members , as well as football players r out of commission. The band's lively marches did help to pass the time between quarters, though, and next year will see the Marching Band on the field again. This band will probably be repres'enting the q.D. C.I. in the Collingwood Centennial Parade.
November, 1957. VARIETY NITE
Variety Nite was held on November 22 and 23. In October, Qand members were measured for the new uniforms. Although the finished uniforms did not arrive until iate on t he 21st , the band presented a very smart appearance . The tailored black suits with gold-coloured epaulets, PQckets , and stripes , are completed by jaunty black ;and gold caps worn for 'marching.
There was a sell-out audience for each performance. The band'played several nwnbers as special features as well as tie-in numbers between different acts. This was the most successful show of the year. Next year, of course, will be even better.
