Stu·dents' Council
PAT DONALD DAVID ELLIS
Although few people realize it, this year's Students' Council has taken a big step forward by passing all the articles in the constitution which wa. drawn up last year. Although they were rejected by la.t year's student body, two significant articles, which give a considerable amount of power to the Students' Council, were passed this year with little difficulty. With this foundation to build on, we hope that future Students' Councils wi II be obi e to make their existence felt more strong! y throughout the school.
The Boys' President, David Ell is, was also responsible for the sale of school sweaters, chosen by the Students' Council, which increased our budget.
Pat Donald, the Girls' President, is also attempting to increase the treasury. Suggestion boxes will be placed in the halls, with a $5.00 prize going to the best idea submitted on how to make money. Of greater importance, a Variety Night will be held in ·April, to which the Band and the Drama Club will also contribute.
Under Pat's suggestion, the Students' Council has passed the motion that our school rings be improved in quality. This will involve the setting, but the traditional crest will remain unchanged.
The purpose for the drive for money this year is a tennis court. If the treasury contains enough money at the end of the year, the Students' Council hopes to have one built as a useful monument to the 1959-60 Students' Council.
This year is only a small step upwards and we hope that each future Students' Council will increase the power, prestige, and usefulness of the most important Student Club in the school.
