Although this year the Juniors did not win a game, the team played exciting football. The main reason that the team went through the season without a win was that it consisted mainly of "rookies" who, nevertheless at times, played like veterans against stronger teams.
Led by David Homuth and Joe Newman as Quarter backs;Larry Gibbons and the "find of the year", Steven Geddes, and Full Backs; and Russ Metheral, Cal Patterson as Half Backs, the team had a powerful ground attack. The pass-catching hands of Mike Scott, Roy(Oily)Dahl, and Cal Patterson gave the team a colourful attack. On the line, Dave Willis, Jerry Chromyn, John Lockton, Len Kilius, Rob Woolner, and Robin
MacNicol gave the team capable blocking. With the exception of Gibbons and the quarterbacks, the rest of the team will be back next year to provide the experience and depth which it lacked this year.
Collingwood's defence tried hard to stop the heavier offensive strength of rival schools. Prominent on defence were Allan Reid, Ken Hume, and Doug Baird who provided the team with a pass defence. On the line Gibbons and Geddes, Reid and Koenig, made many fine tackles.
Coaches Titus and Charlebois are to be congratulated for a job well done. The team wishes to thank them for their efforts.
This year the Senior Team started out as contenders for the Championship, averaging forty-two points for the first two games, and shutting out the competition while doing so. Then disaster struck as they lost the next four games by close margins.
Coaches Kemp, Russell, and Freudeman moulded this year's team into a well-balanced club.
The offence consisted of a powerful passing attack with 0. B. Jackson, Don Ellis, and Bob Kerr throwing to such capable receivers as D. Dawson and T.Geddes.Dawsonwas leading scorer for the team, and gained, in all, over 500 yards.
D. Chessell, B. Stoutenberg, D. Ellis, and B. Kerr contributed to the team the best running attack in the league.
On the line, J. Walsh, W. Scrannage, L. Harrison, D. Barker provided hard blocking and interference.
On defence, B.Abbotts and R.Cheesell gave the team a strong pass defence.
On the front wall, G. Hammill, brother Dave, and D. Plater provided strong tackling.
On the corners, B.Simpson and T.Gillis, the team's most consistent players, halted any possi- ble end runs.
With Allan, Geddes, Hammill, and Chessell, the team next year will have a nucleus to build around.
In conclusion, the team wishes to thank the coaching staff for their painstaking efforts and to wish Mr. Russell all the best in his new school.
