Home Economics
The need for homemaking education is great. Our society demands people to pass a test before they drive a car, but none beforeĀ· setting up a home-an equally serious matter. High incidences of early marriages, family problems, and problems with housing and money management have forced a change to basic training in all areas of home- making.
In Grade 9 and 10 basics are studied -e. g. simple Sewing Techniques, basic foods and nut- rition. In Grade 11 Textiles and Clothing is studied in more depth with the accent on fashion and its aesthetic appeal.
Family Development gives the student an op- portunity to study the family , its problems and the effect of the family upon the individual.
Foreign Foods in Grade 11 leads to a dis- cussion of World Food Supply in Grade 12 where the students are acquainted with the facts of the population explosion, approaching food shortages and nutritional problems. Time and energy man- agement is studied. Labs provide a chance for practical application of principles. Grade 12 is completed by a study of Housing including a study of modern architecture and selection of housing and interior design.
