 THE RACE
FIRST - SENIOR POETRY
YOUTH LEADS THE WAY THIRD - SENIOR POETRY
0 youth with faith in your ideals What miracles await
Your future as with eager hands Undaunted, you create
From this chaotic age a world
Where justice, truth, and right
Shall be enthroned and men shall know Love as the only might!
The past has left a sorry state, Iniquity the blame;
Youth leading on toward better things Will rise above the shame.
Youth fresh with hearts unscarred by hate Will gladly end all strife
When left to choose, and they will win
A better way of life.
Old wrings, resentments, greed, and war Will vanish in that day.
Crazed by new ideals of life.
With youth to lead the way.

THE LYNX
HONOURABLE MENTION - SENIOR POETRY
How like a fawning publican The lynx sits on the rail; However clever on the hunt, He cannot find his tall.
The lynx so very meek and mild Sittong on his perch;
A fierce killer of the wild, Lurking in the birch.
The lynx by nature a curious cat, Locked in rapture, looking at, Deep upon the forest fioor
A fatal fight twixt two boar.
However clever the lynx may be, At one task he'll always fall,
No matter how convincing his plea He'll never find his tail.
The waves came tumbling On to the shore,
Tossing and turning
And then, no more.
Then they came churning Over the rocks
Pounding and swirling With jarring shocks.
The fine mist sprayings On nearby craigs,
Heavy showerings
The rainbow fades.
Flowing and ebbing
With mighty strength.
Green giants towering Drawn full length.
Each wave was fighting To win the race.
Rising and falling
With faultless grace.
Each wave was raging With latent speed,
Foaming and whirling Each can't succeed.
The waves cannot know They must race on
-- For ever more.
EVENING
SECOND - SENIOR POETRY
As we move through this life,
Of segregation, casts and strife,
Where Black remains 'Black,
White, White, but never grey,
What can we say?
What should we do?
Carry our placards and grow our beards, Or remain silent, in our fears?
Hope,
Is there any left?
But, Hypocrisy is deaf!
Humanity.
What of it?
Does he not care a bit?
Of the millions,
Millions, being eaten by deprivation.
The cure; the answer? Annihilation? God •••
