COUNCIL
JOHN BROUGH-FINANCE DIRECTOR: The office of Finance Director on a Student Council is very demanding. Most people don't realize the actual financial aspects of a Student Council. Finance Director is responsible for the budgets of the various clubs and organizations within the school. This year the requisitions for money amounted to approximately $5,000.00. To pay this sum, funds must be raised. Student cards are sold, dances are held and general- iy a fund-raising campaign takes place. Records of all moneys must be kept and reports made. The Finance Di- rector is therefore a very busy person. However, I will not discourage those people who wish to become future Fi- nance Directors as I have found the hours spent very re- warding and the experience has been hectic, challenging, fun and immensely worthwhile.
JILL BROWNE-PUBLICITY DIRECTOR: In my time at CCI, I have heard hundreds of people voice their opinions on school spirit. Nearly all of them boil down to a soft- spoken whining, about how apathetic we all are here at CCI.
I have spent 5 years here and my opinions on school spirit have changed drastically during that time. I can re- member when I felt so much a stranger in school that I was almost afraid to show enthusiasm of any kind. I can also remember a time when I fanatically supported every- thing associated with the school, at least in my own mind. Now it is my belief that school spirit in a game that can be fun if you like playing that sort of thing. I don't, myself. School spirit as a serious aim is a waste of energy to the point of being a joke. It can't be created and sincere at the same time, so there is no point in trying to create it.
I believe in myself. When I'm playing on a team, I believe in everyone else on that team. I know that they are all giving their best or else they wouldn't be playing. I have confidence in the people around me; I know what to expect from them. I don't expect rah rah enthusiasm from CCI because we aren't like that here. We have a great school environment--! hope it stays great. All that crap about school spirit being non-existent at CCI is garbage. School spirit in Collingwood isn't dead, it's just different. We are individuals, not a mob of bleating followers. Ex- press yourself; be yourself; believe in yourself. That is school spirit at CCI.
SYLVIA SLOSEL-SOCIAL CONVENOR: Being social convenor was very challenging but sometimes fun. A lot of work went into preparing the dances but one successful dance after another made it a very rewarding year.
