A Big Step Into High School
The following was written by Dean Philps and presented
by Rien Meesters at the 1990 Grade 8 Parents Night. Welcome to CCI again. I am Rien Meesters, Head Prefect.
Please close your eyes and listen to this story.
You are a child sitting in a beautiful garden. Life is cheer- ful, easy, carefree and secure. Things around you seem endless. It is sunny, the birds are singing and the flowers are in bright colours. Life is safe and you find nothing to disturb
your peaceful frame of mind.
For some reason you slowly feel yourself being pulled to
the end of the ever beautiful garden.
As you proceed on, you come across a small passage way
which, from outside, looks dark and unsafe. Once in the dark passage, things become difficult to understand. Somethings seems to be pulling your mind and soul in opposite directions. It is a momentary lapse of reason. Life's security slowly and eventually ends, leaving you with nothing. You come to three different dark passages. One just might lead you out of this odd and unfamiliar place. You pick the one on your left and proceed onward, as you do you begin to see a small light in the everthickening darkness. As the journey proceeds, your body and mind seem to become older and your knowledge builds. As you reach the end of the tunnel , the most impor- tant decision is about to be made. On the other side of the darkness is the Kingdom of Responsibility known as Adulthood. It is you that must build that bridge; the bridge that will allow you to reach Adulthood.
This is high school. This is a time to live and grow and, for the most part, a time to remember. This is a school where help is plentiful but responsibility is mandatory. If you wish to succeed, you must build that bridge yourself.
