This had to be the only class in the school where the teacher was adament that 'you stay out of the gutter' and you'd better 'flush' properly. These instructions were for those involved in layout. If you were a photographer , you'd better be close to someone when you 'shot' them. Further- more, you spent a lot of time 'in the dark'.
There will always be somethings that I remember about the yearbook course . Upon entering a classroom to take pictures, I'd sometimes have to wait ten minutes for someone to let me snap his/her photo. I was amazed at what some people would do to avoid having their picture taken. For ex- ample, one person suctioned his hands to his face (Jay Robinson) while others would just try to look funny. Some even tried to build a wall with their books and hide be- hind them, but I was taught to be patient.
The best part of the class was learning how to complete such tasks as develop film and design a layout. When a deadline was due, we would have a late worknight in or- der to get pages completed. With the help of a pizza or two, we got things done.
I will always remember the time we shot the sequence photo shown above. Every- one contributed ideas about its making. The yearbook class gave everyone a sense
of accomplishment, knowing that you had contributed to something so great!
