The Fast
The week of November 12th to the 17th was designed as the Hungry For Change week sponsored by Oxfam Canada. The purpose of the Hungry For Change week was to help raise awareness of the hunger problem in the Third World Countries by Oxfam Canada.
At C.C.I. buttons were sold in the main hall for a dollar. Any donations were appreciated at the time. The week included a 14 hour fast that was held on the Friday the 16th. It began at Spm, with the opening ex- ercises where local celebrities had a chance to speak. Among those making the speeches were Mayor Joe Sheffer, Town Council member Bonnie Griffiths and Area Four Trustee Mr. Jim Hughes. Participants were encouraged to play basketbalL write letters of concern and to play bad- minton. There were also a few movies to watch and hot game of Trivial Pursuit going on! By the time the fast was coming to a close, many of the students were beginning to feel the effects of hunger and insomnia. Students realized that they could go out and eat when they wanted to, but the people in the Third World Countries could not. Thank you to all the students and staff for their support during the entire week. Because everyone helped to make this a success, we sent $315 to Oxfam Can- ada from money raised.
