          A Tribute to Our Grads
A NIGHT
OF LASTING MEMORIES!
DARE TO DREAM
t was a simple message Shawn Mitchell gave on Oc- tober 27th at the graduation ceremonies at C.C.I.'s 1990 valedictorian. Aside from the dark glasses, Shawn

gave everyone a very touching speech. It was written with care and it had no age limit. "''m gonna triple dare you into the 21st century and the Golden Age beyond. The future is so bright you gotta wear shades!", Shawn mentioned in his speech. It is so true. ''Ah CCI, she has fed us, nurtured us and provided the mental impetus to send her grads on their way to bigger and better things."
"Believe it or not, life is a picnic," Shawn continued in an excellent imitation of U.S. president George Bush. "And to this picnic everyone must bring something to help all others to have a good time." Quoting from Pierre Elliot Trudeau, George Bernard Shaw, Socratees, and Singapore Shawn sug- gested there is no room for a longer in today's society. "We ore interdependent and this is why every person in society, no matter who they ore, what they do or where they are from, had a significant role" Shawn said. Shawn has also men- tioned in his speech that "Shaw said the reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man. If all we want to do in life is to fool around and accomplish little of substance, we should all go to the United States and become tete- evangelists!"
Shawn ended his speech with a standing ovation from the crowd. Everyone was remembering a passage from his val- edictory address: "live life and not let life live you . .. in short, see the future and seize it. "
When Shawn left the stage, the CCI choir sang "How am ISupposed to Live Without You" and the group No Nonsense (Jason Wilcox, Trevor Hanley, Ryan Knight and James Cor- son) got the gym to be even more alive by singing "Kiss Him Goodbye".
As the night came to a close, and people were leaving CCI, one particular passage from Shawn seemed to be whispering to the 1990 grads - "Dare to be wise -- hug your teachers; Dare to be unreasonable --hug your parents; Dare to have teamwork -- huge your friends. But dare to do all three, and embrace your future."
