It's Nice To Remember Others In A World Where "Me" Often Comes First
Jim Grant
On June 30,1991 , Jim Grant retired from teaching after 27 years in the profession. After a S-year stint, teaching building construction at Uxbridge High School, Jim relo- cated to Sturgeon Falls for one year before Joining the staff of C.C.I. as Head 01 occupations in 1970.
He developed and implemented many 01 the Special Ed- ucation programs and philosophy, currently in place, not only in our school, but alSo In the area. Such activities as camp, weak OccupaJion's work exparience, and the 4-year Occupations Basic Program were all begun during JIm's tenure as Head.
In 1980, Jim mede a change 01 careers, becoming the area co-ordInator lor the new Co-op Education Program" In Simcoe County. The vnallty 01 this program today is a tribute to Jim's efforts over hIS S-year term.
"Jim changed hats once again in 1986, becoming the Tech Director at C.C.I. . In this capacity he worked to implement many 01 the changes occurlng in technical education wnhin the province. One obvious example 01 his efforts is the new Elements 01 Tachnology program.
Such a listing of Jim's accompliShments lails to capture the _ n c e 01 the man, both in terms of his prolesslon, and within the community. Jim's greatest accomplishments are all In areas InIIe known to most people.
He has always been one who took up the cause of those who often could no! effectively spaak lor themselves. In doing so, he made certain that all people, regardless of their snuation, were treated with decency, respect, and equality. Jim's work with the Association lor the Mentally Retarded and the Ontario Spina Billda Association, and his constant willingness to Intercede on behall of the per- son who did no! have an organization as such, is the true mark 01 Jim Grant.
Perhaps the cheractar 01 the man can best be summed up by a comment from a teaching evaluation. In It, the principal stated that "Students are very for- tunate to have Jim Grant. They have a champion In him - who workS for them both In the school and In the community."
C.C.I. is Indeed a kinder, gentler piece because 01 him . .. he'll be missed. He is a champion!
