IN MEMORIAM - MRS. SUSAN NICKEL
"Mrs. Nickel gave me self-confidence. She always made me feel good about myself." This is a statement made by a former student and echoed by hundreds more. What a marvellous quality and tribute for any teacher!
Mrs. Susan (Laking) Nickel graduated from McMaster University and taught at Colling- wood Collegiate from 1979-1992, primarily in the field of Physical Education.
Mrs. Nickel was a loving, caring and very sensitive woman both as a wife and mother and as a teacher. She possessed a sense of values which she would compromise for no one. Never would she relent to pressure over an issue she believed in strongly.
With a love of nature and the outdoors Mrs. Nickel could often be seen hiking the Bruce Trail or biking the Georgian Trail with family and friends. With her husband, Bruce, Su- san cycled and camped various parts of Europe and North America.
How often in life do you meet someone who cares enough to challenge you positively -- someone who will rise to the occasion and never settle for mediocrity? That was Susan Nickel. She dedicated her life to it!
Mrs. Nickel's last year and a half of life was a story of courage and inspiration as she battled cancer -- a disease that we will indeed someday conquer.
Thank you, Mrs. Nickel, from the many students who had the privilege of being influenced by your warmth and leadership. Countless lives have been enriched because of you.
Thank you, Sue, from your colleagues and friends for caring so much about us all. We love the way you lived your life.
Mr. Bert Crago on behalf of the staff and students of C.C.I.
