February was an excit- ing month for the entire Collingwood area, as the cast and crew of 'The Long Kiss Goodnight' converged on the town. Overnight, the main
street was redecorated in a Christmas theme, banks and trust companies were given American names and anything Canadian disappeared from sight. A lighting system sufficient to illuminate a football field hung from cranes and was visible for miles away. Not only did the CCI Band receive recognition for their movie performance, but dozens and dozens of other students made their film debut as extras and gophers. For many, the lights and action.of Holly-
wood didn't seem as glamorous as each cold night- passed. Upon returning to school, they faced a huge workload of missed assignments. One month after filming, Jen Wozney was still trying ~o get caught up. Jessica Lougheed spent days completing her Ph Ed topics and Mike Sharples worked long hours on the computer. Melinda Pegg not only acted as a parade spectator, but wrote journals for English in her spare time.
Ten years from now, C.C.I. students who played parts in the making of the movie will look back on this experience with a mixture of memories. Bill Hutchings will remember his five frostbitten toes and "talking to Geena in 'The Little Red Hen'", Jessica Coulter will remember "how ill (she ) became" + Chris Kirouac will never forget "that dumb beeping
noise while the tanker backed up". For Sean Smith, it was "how good looking Geena was in person".
Despite the cold temperatures they endured, most participants said they'd do it again. Sarah Osburn would because "it's not every day a major motion picture is filmed in Collingwood!". Sean Smith would because he loved "getting paid to stand around and wave". Angie Parks would because she loves "to act and it was a great experience." Both Darrell Sagrati and Christine MacDuffie, however, say "never again!". Just wait 'til they see themselves on the big screen! This is one movie that will have a sell-out audience next Christmas and it is a guarantee that every CCI student will be waiting for that 7 minute sequence to see if they made it on the silver screen!
Was it 'The Long Kiss Goodnight' or
'KISS YOUR CREDIT GOODBYE'?
