The school yellf began like no other. Renovations had begun in June in order to remove the as- bestos and improve the quality of air, but three months later, the building was not back to func- tioning normally. Entire class- room contents could be found in boxes throughout the school.
We had to deal with hallways with no ceilings, classrooms with holes in the walls, early evacuations so cranes could place units on the roof, tidal floods after rainstorms, the re- location of the office to the staff room, the fumes of fresh paint, the high temperatures which turned the school into a tropics zone and the worst of all, the smell of fresh tar which permeated the entire building. However, being tough Fighting Owls, we learned to endure and once in a while, we even found humour in the situation. Sometimes, however, we did notice that those tar fumes did cause some people
to act a little strange....
Danielle Flint and Sarah Stewart take Frederike (fOP LT), our exchange student, to eat lunch in the great Canadian outdoors..opps, those tar fumes from the roofl. The hot temperatures in the school drove Amanda Henderson and
ยท Miguel Martin (fOP MID) to wear cooler attire. With all of the construc- tion going on, Gosia Kozak (BO)" MID) chose to hide in her locker. Michelle Schmidt (BOT RT) wore headphon~s to drown out the noise. Sometimes the noise and fumes were enough to make your hair stand up (MID), right Jonathon McKenzie?
