Bringing Home the Gold
Last May, the various bands and choir ofCCI travelled to Orlando, Florida to compete in the Heritage Festival, a competition run in the United States. The competition was extremely stiff as our school had to play against large American schools and we were the only Canadian entry. After the competition, all schools met at Universal Studios for an awards dinner. The CCI group was pumped, teaching the entire audience how to chant' Canada' and 'Maple Leafs'. The Fighting Owls were ecstatic as they were called down to the stage to receive plaque after plaque. However, nothing will ever compare to the moment when they announced the winner ofthe overall championship and 'Collingwood Collegiate' was heard from the podium. The excitement on the faces of the CCI musicians and teachers was unforgettable! The competition was stressful, but the group also had a great deal
o f fun , enjoying a tour o f Universal Studios, a swim in the shark pool at Typhoon Lagoon and a dance with fellow musicians from across North America. Gratitude must be extended to Mr. Hamlin, Mr. Spencer and Mr. McAndrew who put in hundreds ofhours in order to make this tour possible.
