The Peace Garden
The Peace Garden is an initiative spearhead by students in the school's Pale Blue Dot Society. It was opened with teachers,
students and a local Amnesty International rep on hand for the official opening which included the planting of a white spruce donated by Cleaveiw Nurseries. "This is a place to go and reflect on life and the world in general." Students directly involved with the project include Dan Thompson, Ashley McEacheren, Kyla Shepperd, Heather Wood and Becky Partidge.
"I hope one day it will be a beautiful place," said Shepperd. "It doesn't look like much now, but once all of the projects are completed, people will realize and appreciate it for what its worth." "The students really are the main people behind this," said Mr. Wilkinson. "This group got together almost immediately after the New York City-Washington tragedy and became very concerned about what they're hearing in the media. They wanted to do something positive in an alternative direction."
For innumerable generations of students, there will always be a quiet place for them to retreat to when the hustle and bustle of daily and international life becomes too overwhelming. (BELOW) Students line up at the Peace Garden to light incense as a symbol of peace. (TP, RT) Its Ashley McEachern's turn to light incense as a symbol of peace. (RT) John Brown is getting involved by digging up holes where trees will be planted.
