Quench is a group that is established in the school lianaiiiirilirl"m;a~i~nhlyby people who have committed their lives to being followers of Christ. There are no "members of Quench, but anyone who shows up on any week is welcome to join us in whatever we are doing. Most students who come to Quench believe in God and want to serve his purposes and they also acknowledge the Bible as the inspired word of God. Quench exists to try to encourage students who come to fulfil certain purposes that they have for themselves and to try to unite the group to accomplish worthwhile goals within the school, as
well as develop character in each other.
GAIA is the Green Activity Initiative Association.
We have worked in partnership with the Blue Water Trust Foundation and EcoSchool to raise environment awareness. In the past year we have been telling students about the environment and problems in our government. You may hear Trevor on the announcements telling us to empty our recycling or Corey (party animal) holding an open house party and especially Lesley just running around screaming RECYCLE, RECYCLE! The actions of Gaia are at work in our school and though the group is small we do not lack the energy. Gaia would not be as fair with out Mr. B Jones the teacher of the group. Gaia meets on Mondays and the occasional Fridays at 178Ain the science-Wing; we are always accepting new members.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is an exciting personal challenge for young Canadians. Since it began in 1956, The A ward has developed into one of the world ' s most prestigious youth programmes. More than 115 countries now offer The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and almost 6 million young people have taken part. The criteria for achieving an Award are based upon individual effort and improvement, taking into account each participant's initial capabilities. To achieve an Award, each participant must complete four sections: COMMUNITY SERVICE, SKILLS, PHYSICAL RECREATION, AND OUTDOOR EXPEDITIONS. There are 3levels ofThe Award: Bronze (from age 14), Silver (from age 15) & Gold (from age 16), each requiring an increasing degree of commitment. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Group at CCI have trained and gone hiking in the Beaver Valley in the summer and snoeshoeing in the winter.
