It was 150 years ago that Collingwood Collegiate Institute was built and ready to teach the young and awaiting minds. The school first opened their doors in 1857 on the south east corner of Simcoe and Hurontario. On December 21 1923, while students were rehearsing for a Christmas concert, the school was destroyed by a fire. A new school was buit on the site of the old school, which now occupied the corner of Hurontario and Hume Street.
The school moved once again to its current location of 6 Hume Street on March 29, 1954, when a new school was built. Several expansions later and we now have the school that we all know and love.
