The Collingwood Collegiate Senior Boys Basketball Team had an outstanding year in 2008-09. The Collingwood Seniors lost in the GBSSA AAAA semi-finals in the final seconds. The Senior Fighting Owls finished with 5 wins and 1 loss in league play and a 20-8 overall win-loss record. Highlights of the year include: Champions of the Walkerton Invitational Tournament, Finalists in the 24-team North Bay Chippewa Invitational and a huge home league victory over Barrie St. Joan for playoff seeding.
Andrew Voelker was the leading scorer and rebounder, an excellent defender and a North Bay All-Star. Greg VanBoxmeer, also a North Bay All-Star and last years MVP, led the team in assists and finished second in scoring and rebounding. Mike
·shop was the field goal percentage leader, third leading rebounder and Most ln;tproved Player. Josh MacDuffie led the team in steals, sponsors for the McDs Tourney, and was the third leading scorer. Josh Reason was a standout defensive stopper and the fourth leading rebounder. Aaron Pearce was one of our leading three-point threats and fourth in assists. Steve LeSaux was the backup point guard who, along with Jamie Cook, had their seasons shortened due to injuries and i11ness. Narcis Bejtic was the second-line leading scorer while Travis Boucher led the second-line in rebounding and free throw shooting. Cam Pepper added another scoring punch from the bench. Chris Hewison was outstanding as Manager and practice post.
Mr. Hirst and Mr. Stirling would like to congratulate the Senior Owls for another great year in CCI Senior Boys Basketball History.
