Anolher candidate. a Mr. Ewins from Oshawa de- clmed lhe job offer. The Board of Educalion finally Lurned Lo lhe leachins slaffal C.C.I. and appointed Mr. Milhousen. a 6cience speciali;;l al C.C.I. for Lhree years. a;; principal. He accepled Lhis po;;ilion al a salary of $3300.00 a year.
18. Mr. L.J 6Laplelon - &pl. 1936-March 1938
A lruly loved slaff member and coach look over as Principal in 1936. Many of Lhe sludenls who allended C.C.I. al lhe l ime have fond memories of Lhs man. beller known as ..6Lapes... Orisinally from &aforlh Onlario and a sraduale of 0\!eens Universily he had been a slaff member al C.C.I. for over 15 years. He laushL a number of subjecls includins his specially in Physics. 6adly. Mr. 6laplelon died afler an operalion on March 31. 1938. All h1s former sludenls fondly remember lhis popular leacher. coach and Principal.
19. Mr. R.B. lnksler · March 1938-June 1938
Mr. lnksler. a slaff member. was appoinled Aclins Principal of C.C.I. when Mr. 6laplelon look ill unlil lhe end of lhe school year.
20. Mr. Neil D. Runnells M.A. &pl 1938-March 1944
Mr. Runnells came Lo C.C.I. from Timmins O nlario where he LaushL6cience. He orisinally came from 6lralhroy and was a sraduale of lhe Universily of Weslem Onlario. Mr. Runnalls suided C.C.I. lhroush lhe end of lhe De- pre;;;;ion and inlo Lhe World War Two years. Money was very lishL The communily experienced numerous job losses and many homes were losl due lo unpaid laxes. When lhe war slarled in 1939 numerous sludenls look up Lhe cause and joined Lhe armed forces. &veral of lhe sludenls were killed or wounded. Mr. Runnells used lo read lhe names of lhose sludenls who were killed m lhe assemblies. These were very lraumalic years Lhal pul exlra pre;;;;ures on lhe school.
21. Mi;;;; Marion Clark M.A. March 1944-June 1944
Mi;;;; Clark was named Aclms Principal in March 1944 afl.er Mr. Runnalls re- sisned due lo ill heallh. 6he held lhis posilion unlil lhe end of Lhe school year. Mi;;;; Clark was an ''inslilulion·· al C.C.I. 6he had been on slaff lhe lonsesl and laushl pracl1cally every subjecl. however. malh was her spe· cially. In &plember 1944 she wenl back inlo lhe cla;;;;room where she remained as a leacher unlil her reliremenl 6he louched lhe lives of many members of Lhe Collinswood communily. In 1944 C.C.I. had a populalion of 288. The lolal budseL for Lhe school for 1944 was $31.432.00.
22). Mr. Duncan MacRae · 1944-1957
Duncan MacRae had been a Principal in Uxbridse before he came lo Collin.gwood. He was a Caplain in lhe Mililia and fell lhe reason he sol l h e j o b w a s L h a l L h e B o a r d w a s l o o k i n s f o r s o me b o d y l o lake over lhe Cadel Corps Cadels were an imporlanl aspecl of O nlario &condary 6chools and lhe bis evenl oflhe year was lhe Cadel mspeclion.
Mr. MacRae recalls lhal salaries were very poor and lhal lhere was a conslanl Lurnover of leachers. His flrsl conlracl paid him $2900.00 a year. Durins Mr. MacRae's principalship. lhe school moved from Hume 6lreel lo lhe Cameron 6lreel localion. He recalls lhe day lhey ..walked up lhe slreel... He says ..lhey did il wilh panache. The Cadel band played re· lreal and we broushl lhe flas down military slyle. The slaff and sludenls marched up lhe slreel lo Auld Lans 6yne. ll was a sood show...
