'24. Mr. Jeff Peal cl\epl 1957 - June 1961
Mr. Jeff Peal recalls a school of aboul 700 sludenls when he
arrived as Principal in 1957. The enrolment was expandin8 and Lhey had lo use Lhe cafeleria as a classroom. He felt lhal 700 sludenls was Lhe ideal size for Lhe school.
He remembers the warmth of Lhe wood panellin8 in the school and especially in lhe 8Ym/ auditorium. M lhal lime. Collin8wood Colle8iale was heralded in Geneva. cl\wilzerland as a leadin8 ex- ample of school architecture.
He remembers Lhe oulslandin8 Marchin8 Band and lhe school winnin8 Drama competitions and cl\ki Meets. The hiBhliBhl of the fall alhlelic season was Lhe Tudhope Track Meel which saw Collin8- wood Colle8iale compete wilh Barrie schools and Midland. followed by a dance wilh 1600 sludenls in lhe 8Ym.
Mr. Peat left. Collin8wood Colle8iale lo assume a Principalship in forl William (Thunder Bay) in 1961. He became a cl\uperinlendenl in 1966 and relired in 1981. He is now 87 years old and still resides in Thunder Bay.
'25 Mr. John Mcintyre & p l 1961 - June 1969
bein8 Principal in lhe 1960's was his ability lo do whatever he wanted wilhoul interference from a bureaucracy . cl\taff who worked wilh him remember thal he had lwo staff meelin8s a year. one on the first day of school and Lhe other on the ·Jasl day of school. He prided himselfon knowin8 Lhe names of mosl students and used lo take their pictures horne and remember their names.
John look an early reliremenl in 1969 just before lhe County Board look over as he fell lhe new or8anizalion would prevent him from aclin8 in an autonomous manner lhal he was used to. Mr. Mcintyre is now 87 years old and still lives a few blocks from Lhe hi8h school.
26. Mr. Don Moyer &pl 1969 - Dec. 1971
Don recalls Lhal when he arrived at Collin8wood Colle8iale. he
perceived Lhallhe school had an excellent Technical Deparlmenl One ofthe challen8es was to introduce Lhe credit system. He noted lhallherewereanumberofolderexcellenlleacherswhoseemed lo prefer the status quo. He remembers hirin8 Mr. 5erl 6elles lo Leach Arl. Mr. cl\elles painted the Owl which is on Lhe noor of Lhe old 8Yrn.
Winter weather and snow days were a problem in 1969. One day. recalls Mr. Moyer. the buses couldn't relum lo pick up lhe students so they slept al Lhe school.
Mr. Moyer was responsible for the school durin8 its expansion. He desi8ned the Library and the cl\cience Win8 and durin8 his Prin- cipalship. the Business Win8 was also added.
