What is Lhis Black and Yellow? When and by whom were Lhey ori8inaled9 What do Lhey stand for? 6uch
are the questions thal may arise in your mind as you look upon Lhe 5ay stripes of these colours which are so proudly worn by the students of our colle5iate. These are the colours of our most 5lorious Colle5iale lnslilute. a colle5iate which for more than fifly years has been creditably preparin8 the youth of our community for their life work. We will always remember our school as Lhe school of Lhe Black and Yellow. We will always remember the days Lhal we fou5ht for Lhe honour of these colours. not only at our studies. bul on the sports field. When in a hard fou5ht 5ame of ru5by. we were almost down and oul. what a stimulant Lo our fainlin8 hearts when we saw our cheerin8 school fellows with wide bands of Black and Yellow. It was Lhen lhal we would muster up our 5reat slren5Lh and play the 5ame with 5realer determination to win.
Nol only in our sports have Lhe si5ht of these colours ur5ed the students to their best efforts. bul in their studies also. Throu5h strict adaptation Lo their work and tireless study. many scholarships have been brou5ht Lo Lhe honour of Lhe Black and Yellow.
IL was throu5h the efforts of Mr. C.K. Mills. who became principal in the laller part of Lhe year 1901 Lhat these colours were standardized as those of our own colle5iale. Ill this Lime Lhe school was jusl enlerin8 upon her own sportin8 era and Lhe need of some school colours was fell.
lind now what do these colours stand for? Every fellow Lhat has played a5ainst the students of the C.C.I. will admit LhaL the Black and Yellow colours are worn by players who are always willin8 Lo play the 5ame fair and square. When luck is a5ainst Lhe wearer of these colours. they do nol 5ive up. bul on the si5ht of Lhe Black and Yellow Lake new coura5e and press on Lo victory. Thus you see. Lhal these colours represent hon- esty and fair play. loyally and perseverance. three 5reat virtues which have raised Lhe standard of Lhe Black and Yellow to Lhe enviable position il now commands.

The 1976 Cleaner staff decided Lo start a tradition Lhat would brin8 our 5raduales and Lhe community closer
Lo5elher. That year some of Lhe 5raduales climbed aboard and alop of buses in the middle of Lhe football field. The followin8 year. the 5rads climbed Lhe face of Lhe 6pike and 6poon restaurant across fromC.C.I. This picture won Lhe besl colour yearbook picture ala competition in Miami. !lorida. 6Lartin8 in 1977. a unique tradition be5an where Lhe lar5e 5rad photo was hun8 in Lhe cafeteria as well as formins a centrefold in Lhe Cleaner. Visitors can now view our former sludenls perched al Lhe Collin5wood terminals to boardin8 a lake frei5hler al Lhe shipyards. The tradition continues.
OZZIE TliE OWL
Many successful fundraisers in the '70s and '80's lefl Lhe 6Ludenl Councils with a surplus of funds and il was decided to leave ·memories' for Lhe school. The school fla5. the welcomin8 wall in the main foyer and 'Ozzie' were a few. The owl has always been part of our school le5acy and when Joanne Liotta was president in '81. Ozzie was purchased for a cost of $1500 fromMalibars in Toronto. llfler a schoolwide conlesl. the owl was named and he was an instant hil upon his first appearance al C.C.I. lllthou5h he now seems a liLLie bruised and patched. he is still very much a part of our tradition.
