Volleyball has lradilionally been a popular sport for Birls al C.C.!. ll was played purely in lhe 1930's as an intramural sport.
By lhe 1940's. a C.O.&.&.A. (Central O ntario &condary & hool Association) learn was formed lo compete a8ainsl olher schools in Lhe Ccor8ian Bay Dislricl. oo many Birls were willin8 lo par- Licipale Lhal a house lea8ue was formed for those players who were not able lo be on lhe C.O.&.&.A. learn.
Durins Lhe 195<Ys. Lhe Birls were limited lo play- in8 in one tournament per season. This always oc- curred in November and involved severa.l schools. C.C.!. hosted many ofLhese tournaments and Lhe learn played consislenlly. The & niors won Lhe championship in 1954 and 1955

The 70's looked like il would be a promisin8 decade on Lhe volleyba.Il court. The learns from lhe early seventies played well Lhrou8houl Lhe year. only lo lose in Lhe final Barnes. Allhou8h Lhe learns oflhe mid-decade did nol do quite as well. their spirit and effort never diminished. Durin8 Lhe '74-75 year. the &nior learn was pla8ued wilh in-
juries and a lack of participation prevented lhem from finishin8 lhe season. In "76 a Midselleamwas added Lo the roster. The luck chan8ed in 1977-78 when all three levels made il lo Lhe zone finals and lhe Mid8els wenl on lo Lhe GB finals. Unfor- tunately. lhey losl in lhe semi-fina.ls. bullhey suc- ceeded in revivin8 Birl's volleyba.ll at C.C.I.
Success in Lhe 80's nuctualed. C.C.I. fared well in re5ular season play. bul oflen came up short in zone and GB play-offs. Enthusiasm and a sense of fair play mark Lhe 5irl"s volleyball players of C.C.!. who conltnue Lhe tradition of nicknam- in8 each other. lravellin8 Lo out-of-town 5ames and cheerin8 on their fellow learn-males.
