leading events of each year was given a large push to success by Louise Caron portraying "Sonia, Jean Moore as "Mother Vanya" and Joyce Lar$ert as a dancer. At this same commence- ment Marjorie Lavers received a school letter which is quite an honour to any pupil of the collegiate in the fourth year.
The social calendar was highlight- ed by a sleigh riding party or a sleigh walking party as some might call it.
For the above party grade twelve chartered a sleigh much to the dislike of our more realistic pupils who would prefer to travel by helicopter. Al- though there are but a few boys in our form these successfully held the "fort" against all the girl attackers. At least they like to .believe that they did. We returned from this trip to Kirkville with a few minor casualties and a ravacious of the future, had burnt the cocoa, however there was food and dancing to appease our desires which climaxed a successful night for some, but for others the night had just 1begun,
We have too as any normal class an array of nicknames such as "Mouse" for Donald Malcolm, perhaps for :Qis quiet manner or perhaps for his dim- inutive size. Also there is "Burp" alias for Mary Bourrie and "Sparrow" for Bruce McDermid both origins actually unknown and last 1but not least "Rabbi" for Bob Fryer, perhaps from his nature, but more often his uncle the great Rabbi Fryer.
This concludes our little epistle with a hope, or perhaps a challenge to the future fourth formers to live up to, or maybe pattern themselves to be like us. I am well aware of the fact that this is practically an impos- sibility. of which I think they might be glad.
GRADE XII SOCIAL REPORT Louise Caron
Every party, no matter who has it or where it is, has a certain amount of red tape connected with it but I think Grade XII had more than its intended share in connection with their sleigh ride. Take for example the re- fusal to this fair grade, of grade XIII to combine finances and crowd with them in order to make the affair merrier. I believe that all of about five members of upper school were willing to accept our "invite". Nor was this all. Picking out the date of
our sleigh riding party added more gray hau·s to lVlr. barr's head than an u•·ClJ.uary 11istory lesson with his form- wmcn 111y fnends is something! There were (o1 course) to provide difficulties, tile Masonic ainner, St. Valentine's uance, SKl dance, \_;ommenceroent prac- uces and Cu~~A practices. Neverthe- less we p1c1,ed a .nne 'tuesday eve to I.Jrave the wintry weather and it was at <:S.UO p.m. that an anxious, warmly garbed c1·owd stood around the soon- to-depart sleigh.
J.t is surprising how an intelligent group of teen-agers can be tricked into walkmg to Kirkville and 1back just be- cause a sleigh and horses are moving along with them. That is just what happened to us. Oh yes, some fortun- ates remained on the sleigh for more than a minute at a time but with such people as Sheldon Redpath, "Lewie" .t<'awcett, "Mouse Malcolm, Ruth Collins and Jean Moore exerting their physi- cal strength to theil:: "Derrieres" in aiding them off into the nearest snow drift, they did not stay on very long. It really is a shame that we fourth formers do not have mental energy comparable to our physical energy, for, after we had turned in the general direction of the budding metropolis known as Collingwood, the horses, not we, were exhausted. (No, we did- n't pull the horses home on the sleigh!) Nevertheless when we returned to the school at 9.45 we were ready for re- fuelling which we did without hesita- tion.
The food, consisting of sandwiches and cake was consumed rapidly-by some. We noted however that the more "figure-conscious" girls shunned the lovely chocolate cake with marsh- mallow icing. The drink-natures best, was served "a la fontaine"-and was the nicest water we ever tasted. Yes, cocoa would have been much nicer had it not chosen to get over-heated. This delightful repast was served 1buffet style in the gymnasium where Marg Hughes treated us to some of her de- lightful waxings. In fact some of us even danced didn't we Lewie? A rather amazing and amusing feature in the gym was a walrus race with Jean Moore, Marj Wilson, Joan Mc- Lean and Lou Caron. Lou Caron "slid" over the finish line first (no remarks please) .
At eleven forty-five-after Rabbi and Gwen had finished the dishes, the group bid farewell to each other and stagg-ered home-results of the ride!
