"No, he didn't. I had told him about it the day before."
"That's one of your main troubles, you know,\I Val reminded her. "You tell him where you're going. You don't give him a chance to ask you."
The red-headed girl, looking very insulted, stood
up.
"I should have known better than to unburden my troubles to you, Valerie Price,II she blazed. "Sure you

stick up for him. You're nuts about him. You fawn over him every chance you get."
With these parting words, practically shouted, she stomped out of the shop. Val sat there a few minutes, staring into space. Maybe she was right, maybe she was
nuts about Richard Chalmers, her handsome neighbour. IfIn fact," she mused, "there's no maybe about it.
I knew the first minute I saw him."
She was so busy in her thoughts that she did not
see the object of them walk in.
