that she hated the "rain because of that.
Peggy walked despondently along. The sidewalk was one
succession of puddles. One of her rubbers decided to spring a leak and she could feel the water squishing around inside her boot. Her pumps would be ruined. It "deepened Peggy's anger and annoyance. Uncontrollable circumstances always angered Peggy. It was very unco:r.lfortable and she still had six blocks to walk. Oh, how could Bob have been so cruel?
The rain pounded on her umbrella with the noise of a ffiachine gun. It punctured her thoughts enough so that she realized she was achy and chilly. She pulled her coat tighter and put up her collar. The thick dampness seared her face. She stru~ped her foot angrily. As a result water splashed up onto her stockings. Peggy glowered. Up ahead a little farther, a black object sat in the centre of a deep puddle. Peggy; interested, walked closer. A toad!
She annoyedly ~loshed bi le~ving Mr. Toad in the centre of a mild whirlpool. Ee probable couldn't imagine how any- thing could dislike his one great love.
Peggy grew more despondent than ever, when a voice awoke her out of her reverie.
