The students had exchanged "'t1.mes beforehand ·and the tree w<~s arrayed with .an assortment of parcels of all shapes and siz- es.

No sooner were the December exams over than our language teach~r. Mr. Potter, fulfilled his promise to take 1he stude::Jrt:s of Grade XIii to a skating r art-., at the -:rena in Collingwood. NsturaJly we could talk of no- thin,. else since it w.as our first night'.:> skating nf the season and .an a;greeable relief from r--r exp:riEmtces of the examin- ation room.
We met !l.t th~ ar?na .at eight n'clock, and ska.ted till ten. The ice W3S oolendid, a•nd we were in high spirits.
Mr. Pott•er then treatod us in l\ nearby restaurant..a.nid, thus nourished, we travelled in our ,·es~r·ectiv'! •c a r s to Avening. whel'a Johmt Thomson treated us to bowlin!!. Altthou'~"h most of us were 11nacnuainted w1th t.he rules. we soon were playing like <1lri hands •at the ga.me. After hnwlinr; we soent the remainder of the evening dancing in the hall uust.airs.
All in all it was a marvelleous n1=1rt.v. amid ·we :1-re f):rateful to Mr. Po"ter for hi•s kindnP.ss.

Wednesday, January 16, found us all in read~n.ess for the main social event of the winter term. The ice was reported fine, and so the skates were·do'!l!Iled and even the weakest, after a few uneven tstrides, were gliding swiftly over the shiny surface.
