Oh, she was just a pretty maid And he a gangling youth.
They sat together side by side.
'Twas in a drug store booth.
They waited on their sodas tall And hoped they'd not be long. Oh, she was just a little thing And he so big and strong.
Their sodas came and they set to.
Her heart was all aflutter.
He grinned with pride and tried to speak But all he could do was stutter.
The juke-box played their favourite song. It really was quite jazzy.
He wore a shirt of bright lime green.
She thought it was quite snazzy.
Her hair was in a pony's tail.
She wore a bat-winged sweater.
The more he looked the more he liked; The more he liked the better.
He carried her books so carefully
As they went out of the drug store.
He was not sad to see her go,
For he'd see her to-morrow after four.
