Report on tbe Junior Basketball Team
Although not ao auc0eaafal ~• last year, the c. D. c. I. did produce a good Junior basketball team. We did not actually come into our own until the last two· ~&s of the aea1on when we tied Barrie, the league leaders at the time, and routed Midland. Both of these clubs had previously defeated ua. The top scorers were
Captain JJOug. Ostien and Brian Mc!.lurray, although centre Don 'rer .ll.eer and ~ards Jim Heron and .:Jon Kelly gave invaluable support. Alternates were Colin .ll.cDougall, Clinton Beckett, Dick Uorrow, Charlie l'lagner, Dennis Allen ,.ft.t Jackie Wray. ·Our coach, llr. Bull
showed us out mistakes and guided our attack from the bench. Report on Senior Basketball Tenm
Tbe aanior t~nm did not have a very succeaaful ye.'l.r in the "won" column but they tried hard and died valiantly. The team waa fed - by captain am high scorer Cra.ig Cook. Other members were fun Rough and Don Buckingham, forwards, and Grant llixon
and Paul Allison, guards. Others to sse action were Paul Nisula, Barry Elliot, and Sonny Foley.
JUNIOR
FOOTBALL
Coaches -Mr. Parkin and Bill Girdwood -A team is lost without a good coach, and we had two of the finest.
A graduate and former football star of c. D. c. I., Bill came back to coach this year and did an excellent job. Mr. Parkin who needs no introduction also spent much time and effort in moldin~ our teams.
Clinton Beckett - For a first yed.r man "Bugs" showed plenty of fight and desire. Should go well next year.
WAyne Smith - played a fine game at end and will be a welcome member of aext year's team.
WAyne WAgner - another lineman, playing tackle. Wayne played fine ball. Although he played well at the football,
he played better at "Sunset Point".
Greg Taylor - Our true vetran, "Boze" has the proud distinction of having the biggest feet of the team. Galloped 89 yards in Midland for his first touchdown of his career.
Doug Ostien- In his third and final year as junior; Doug proved a clever q.b. in piloting the team this year.
Frank Butters- Fleet-footed left half - was untouchable in a hundred yards - was the best broken field runner on the squad.
Don Cook - One of the smallest, but most aggress1ve members on the team - played exceptionally well for his first year in football - I still say he should have scored in Midland.
