VARIETY NIGHT
Each year, C.D.C.I. puts on a Variety Night and each and every year it has been a better success. But 1955's was tops. A record crowd attended aad left feel- ing that their money had been well spent.
The evening commenced with the school band, under the direction of Mr. Boyd Wood, playing some martial tunes. The band looked very smart and neat in their white and black uniforms and their freshly shined instruments.
Next on the programme was a model show under the direction of Mrs. Leach. The girls modelled the jumpers, skirts, blouses, evening gowns, etc. that they had made in Home Economics Classes. They were ver$ smart, and neat and some of these girls should become terrific seamstresses.
The following act was a highlight of the evening. The 1920's were brought back and many a memory was in people's minds as eight girls came dancing out on the stage.Flappers, turned down hose, lots of makeup are only a few words to describe them. But their dance was really old. Charleston by name and charles- ton it was. They were really good and certainly had taken much time in practice and much patience on Mr. Watson's part.
The band again played and again was very good. Then Mr. Wood directed the Glee-Ettes in several delightful numbers.
Fbllowing this a play under the direction of Miss Urry was put on. It was called "Fbr Whom The Telephone Rings", and was about a father waiting for an important call and so was each member of his family. Many humorous incidents occurred, but each were solved and at the end of the play everyone had received their calls but father.
