MUSICAL MEMORIES
The 1958-59 Concert Band had a large, 18 member executive this year. Under theguidance
of the Executive, the band was well organized and enjoyed a wonderful musical year. Thanks must go to Mr. Hollier and all who gave assistance whenever they could.
In September, 1958, the Concert Band made its first appearance of the 1958-59 school year at the Commencement Exercises. There were 20 new band members present.
The Band also presented a musical prelude at the Home and School meeting on September 30th. In November, the Executive decided that Concert Band members would act as ushers at each
Community Concert held in the C. D. C. I. gymnasium during the winter term.
In December, as a celebration after the Christmas examinations, the Band presented an evening
of Christmas carols.
In January, 1959, the Band provided musical relaxation at the C. D. C. I. annual Parents'
Night.
The Talent Shows got off to a very poor start. Although prizes were offered, the student body
did not support the Band at first. Later, some very promising talent was displayed at the Talent Contest assemblies.
In February, a treat in the music field came to Collingwood - the Royal Canadian Air Force Concert Band.
On February 20, the long-awaited day arrived and the Concert Band left for Toronto to compete in the Kiwanis Music Festival. The Band entered three classes and won a second prize with 80 points in a class against Barrie, and placed in the other classes for which at least 70 points are required.
In March, the play Julius Caesar was presented by the Drama Club. The brass choir of the Concert Band provided the musical background and sound effects. The music was written by Mr. Hollier in collaboration with the English Department.
JUNIORĀ· BAND
The Junior Band was formed early in 1959. The members, who are all from Grade Nine, will
work towards the goal of joining the Senior Concert Band.
