The annual commencement was heldattheschool on September9, 1960. Rev. M. B. Masecar, B.A., B.D., of the Trinity United Church in Collingwood gave the invocation. Most of the evening was spent in presenting the many shields, scholarships, awards, and diplomas by teachers, members of the board, and representatives of clubs.
In addition to these awards, two other important functions were included in the evening's program--the dedi- cation of the recently completed addition to the school building, and the presentation of a gift to the school honour- ing a member of the C.D.C.I. board.
Principal W . J . Peat was chairman for the program and in welcoming the large crowd he stated that this was the largest class of graduates in history.
The Baccalaureate Address was given by Mr. Richard D. Jones of Cooksville, National Executive Director of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, who, with conviction high-lighted by keen humour, outlined five attributes for success in the future of the graduating students.
Mr. Jones said there are certain milestones in Iife for every person, and this night is one for the graduates. From this milestone, he said, there stretch out many roads in all directions. But no matter what road the graduates take on their way of their Iife's work, there are certain characteristics necessary to attain success. These he stated as: physical strength which is a main demand of present day life, mental alertness which calls for a continuation of education, a pleasing personality filled with enthusiasm for work, a willingness to serve others, and a belief in God which gives a power and a strength to one's endeavors.
The Valedictory address was given by John Hood of Grade 13.
Music was provided by the C.D.C.I. concert band, under the direction of Music Director J. Knights.
At the conclusion of the program a social hour, with refreshments, was held in the cafeteria, followed by
dancing in the auditorium.
