Cadets
The word that best describes the past year in the Cadet Corps is development. Our Corps, which by the way is one of the oldest in the province, is gradually recovering from its difficulties of two or three years ago, and the main effort has been in the production of a new group of leaders. It is expected that with_ the excellent recruits that have been obtained, together with the expectationthatanumberof them will attend summer camp, we can look forward to success in this. Commanding Officer William Soucie, Cadet Captain Douglas Montgomery, Cdt. R.S.M. George Stephenson, W. 0. 2 James Bushell are to be congratulated.
The Cadet Band has been completely re-organized by Mr. Jursa with the expectation that the Corps will be able to parade accompanied by its own music. The success of a venture such as this depends almost entirely on student enthusiasm, and those cadets under Drum Major Alistair Stout, such as John Duffin who have laboured in this work, are entitled to all the credit for the advances we have made,
Mr. Willis, in charge of rifle coaching, has been ably assisted by range officer Staff/Sgt. Alex Whipps with the result ·that their efforts are directly evident in the improved scores obtained by cadets. It is expected that up to eight of the regular shooters will earn their first crest which is awarded when ten targets of over eighty are fired. Im- provement has especially been shown by Cadets James Badowski and Wayne Twigger.
Although the Signal Section did not receive as many new

recruits as hoped for, there was still an active interest exhibited by the veterans under the direction of Robert Smith; in fact this year there will be one member, at the very least, Brian McKay, who will make eighteen words a minute. The section was congratulated by the Collingwood Ski Club in helping to maintain communications during the ski championships of February 3rd and 4th, 1963.
Mr. Twigg's trai11ing programme will help the corps to produce an interesting presentation on our annual in- spection in May with a Bren Gun demonstration, Precision Squad, as . well as the regular ceremonial drill. Cadets Peter Parker and James Badowski have indicated special interest in these areas. We are hoping that next year we may be able to advance sufficiently to represent the school at such functions as the Remembrance Day parade.
All in all, it has been a year of effort and the Cadet Corps looks forward to providing not only valuable service to interested students but also an organization of which the school can be proud.
