G. B. S. S. A. Junior Basketball
The Junior Basketball team, capably coached by Mrs. Russell, had a relatively successful season. The highlight of the season, as far as the girls were concerned, was the defeat of Stayner 29-17.
The opening game with Midland-Penetang was ~ost 14-10, but the team came back to defeat Barrie Central 21-14. They continued their winning streak defeating Camp Borden 26-7, but dropped the all-important game to Barrie North 29-21. The final game, a loss to Orillia Park, 22-9, knocked the team from second place to third, thereby eliminating Collingwood from the play-offs.
The players wish to thank Miss Shaw for her support as referee and Cynthia Hacking as manager, Sheila Wilson, as scorer, and Lynda Hughes as timer.
Due to a lack of coaches, the Senior team was not formed but several "veterans" came out to give Stayner a tight exhibition game, ending in an overtime tie.
Many thanks go to the student body who gave its whole-hearted support.
