G. B. S. S. A. Junior Volleyball
This year the volleyball season got under way earlier than usual. Practice began about the first of October with a great number of enthusiastic grade niners, most of whom had never played this game before, and a number of older girls ready to try out for positions. Two teams were finally picked--eleven players on the Junior team and nine on the Senior. Judy Johnston was the Junior Captain and Sue Smith the Senior Captain.
On October 29, both teams went to Owen Sound C. V. I. where the Juniors won two out of the three match games, and the Seniors won the first game of the match, which was the only one that counted. The big tournament was on November 3 at Midland-Penetang High School. It was an all day affair and a full bus went there with teams, officials, coach, and a few spectators. Barrie North won both Junior and Senior events, but Collingwood Juniors placed second, and the Seniors placed third. The opponents were Orillia Collegiate, Orillia Park, Barrie North and Central, Camp Borden, and Midland-Penetang. The season closed for our teams with an exhibition game against Stayner in our school. The Juniors played well, but lost the match. The Seniors won. Spectators crowded the gym to see this game, and spirit
was high.
Thanks to Mrs. Russell, who coached both teams. It was an exciting and successful season.
