Initiation
For the 1962 crop of Grade Nine students, the fifth of October will probably be remembered as "Black Friday." That was the daytheGradeNinegirls were required to climb the stairs with pails of books in hand and waist bands of skirts tied around their knees. That was the day the Grade Nine boys wore nylons, garters, jewellery, and even cosmetics. But the sport was all in good fun, and the Grade Niners took all their trials and tribulations as a thing to be endured. "Grin and bear it" was the order of the day! And the treat- ment could not have been too harsh, for many of the initiated--the survivors at least--turned up in fine spirits at the annual Initiation dance.
