In spite of poor weather conditions, this year has been a successful one for the Collegiate Ski Club. The executive, headed by President Ron Picot, consists of Ron Culbert(Vice-President), Mary Bush and Sue Harvie(Secretary-Treasurer), Steve S c ott (Racing Chairman), Wayne Clute (Publicity and Social Convenor), and L arry Gibbons(Equipment Manager).Mr. Culbert is our staff-advisor.
The membership this year has consisted of sixty skiers. This year the school equipment has included steel-edged skis, with safety bindings and better poles and boots. The club has gone skiing on Wednesdays, and lessons for fifty cents each have been available, plus a reduced lift rate. The Clubwishes to thank Mr. Culbert for his work on the school equipment.
The club gratefully thanks Mr. Jozo Weider and the Blue Mountain Ski School for the services which they provided. Our thanks also go to the Collegiate Board for providing a bus on W ednes- days.
On March 5th, the annual Ski Club races were
held with enjoyment for all. On March 19th, the SkiClub held a dance in the Collegiate auditorium with the Marcatos providing the music.
On January 30th, the Collegiate Ski Team placed second over all at the G. B.S. S. A. Ski Meet at Horseshoe Valley. The team consisted of Sue Harvie, Anna Throop, Beth Westlake, Don Ellis, Larry Gibbons, Wayne Hazelwood, Ian MacMurchy, Steve Scott, and Bob Simpson. Sue Harvie won the girls' combined while Larry Gibbons placed second in the boys' combined.
On February 5th- 6th, Collingwood Collegi- atewas host to the 0. F. S. S. A.Ski Meet. Congrat- ulations go to the students, teachers, and others who helped to run off the meet very smoothly. Special congratulations go to Mr. Titus who organized the meet and did a very excellent job. Sue Harvie won the girls' Alpine combined, while Ron Culbert placed third in the boys' downhill. Top Alpine combined boy for Collingwood was Ron Picot. The team made a good try, but most of the honours went to the northern schools.
