Our school year began just like any other. We appointed our staff advisors, selected a treasurer and secretary, and settled down to our job as the new Student Council executive. We held the usual dances, planned student activities, and worked hard at making the first semester successful and enjoy- able for the student body.
However, the second semester has introduced a new year. This year, not just any year, is Canada's one hundredth birthday, a glowing event in her history and one which must be made even more eventful for CCI than previous years. Many events and many projects are planned. School sweaters, in the tradi- tional black and gold are being sold. Variety Night has been planned along a centennial theme, and a student bus trip to Expo 67 has been organized. A gala Centennial Dance is in the offing, and various projects are taking shape.
We are fortunate to have Mrs. Blacklock and Mr. Freudeman for advisors. Both of these teachers have guided us so well, and have introduced excellent ideas. Our secretary, Pat Garbutt, andourtreasurer, Les Odor, have also been doing a fine job.
Although our year is not yet completed, and many projects are still in idea form, we feel that this year will be a 'smashing' success. However, success must not terminate with the end of the school year. We must remember that if we want to make our school, our town, our country proud examples of spirit and unity, we must be proud Canadians working for our ideals with all the spirit we have in us.
Good luck in the coming years, fellow Canadians.
