Cross-Country running has finally gained the respect it deserves as one of the best co-curricular sports in the world. C.C.I.'s Cross-Country teams, coached by those two muddy harriers, Mr. Allard and Mr. Knox, were so convinced of the worth of their sport that they responded with numerous outstanding performances.
Cheri Titus led a strong "midget" girls' team of Shir- ley VanBoxmeer, Jocelyn McGillivray, and Val Jewer to an individual gold medal and a 5th place team finish on O.F.S.S.A. competition. Cheri went on to represent Ont- ario in North American competition where she finished fourth to contribute to an Ontario team victory.
Kevin Titus sparked the boys' teams to superior accomplishments from week one of Simcoe County Lea- gue competition through to the G.B.S.S.A. finals. Although Kevin lost the G.B.S.S.A. individual junior title to Marshall
Rowe of Orillia Park Street, Kevin came back in the O.F.S.A.A. Finals to place 28th among a cast of 300. Mr. Rowe finished a distant 103rd!
In Simcoe County League competition, CCI raged a seesaw battle with O.D.C.V.I. to determine the best school in Simcoe County. In the end, we finished a close second. Yet, several athletes developed into outstanding runners. Greg Steffler became the third best midget boy and went on to qualify for O.F .S.A.A. Jane Perry also came into her own and ranked third among junior girls. John Bonwick was the best of the senior boys. At the G.B.S.S.A. Finals, some 42 athletes represented CCI, and did us proud by chalking up 293 points, only 10 behind overall winner O.C.C.V.I. Our aim next year; to have fun "trampling" O.D.C.V.I. with our Japanese and German sneakers!
