On January 30, 1980 we held our annual concert. This year was somewhat different because we weren't almost snowed in for once. This concert always helps us because it builds us up toward a higher standard for the Kiwanis Festival.
This year we had a lot of success at the Kiwanis Festival in Toronto. The Junior Band went first and was awarded a first and a second prize. Then the Woodwind Choir received a first place and a recommendation for the "Stars" concert. After that the Clarinet Quartet played the best it ever has and achieved two hand-earned second awards. The Flute Quartet received a third award this year. The Senior Band battled with thirty other bands and received a first and a second award. This means that next year we have to play in the "A" level.
The Woodwinds were invited to the St. Lawrence Centre to play on the Stars of the Festival programme which was attended by the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, Pauline McGibbon, and received the William Keyes Award of $75.00 for their performance. This was a real highlight for us.
Our next performance involves the brass who are invited to play in the Good Friday service with Calling- wood's Interfaith Choir.
Also in April the Band will be assisting in two concerts featuring elementary school choirs and other groups in the Area IV Music Festival and Spring Concert.
