The CCI Fighting Owl Wrestling Team spent a long 9 month season with a young team to create numerous successes in 1980-81. Three wrestlers represented CCI at the OFSSA championships in Cambridge-Eric VandenHurk, David Dynes and Steve Sammons. Having accumulated over 70 medals in various tournaments, sponsoring a public school camp and tourna- ment, our season continued with Steve Sammons winning the Ontario championship in his age division and Jim Brown winning third place in Ontario. Steve then won the Canadian-American Friendship Meet in New York, placed second in the Great Lakes Schoolboy in Ohio, and the Midget World Champion- ships, in Vancouver, Although these successes are hard to beat our 1981-82 team is ready for the challenge.
This years team has already become a frontrunner in the GBSSA wres- tling league. Half way through the season, our second year wrestlers and some promising rookies have accumulated numerous medals as they continue to expand their wrestling skills. Our goals are to double our representation at the OFSSA championships this year, as we challenge for the OFSSA team championships. The team also plans to continue our provincial, national and international successes. The Fighting Owls have really come of age, in a short 5 years, of existence.
