                    BEING A PLAYER . ..
For me, being on the Jr. Football
Team was great! I had always wanted to play the sport, but I never had the right opportunity.
Practices started on the second week of school and ran for three more after that. When the coaches had seen enough, they started to make cuts. The majority went, but I, lucky as I was, was allowed to stay on.
Once the team was made, we were fit- ted and began to go more in depth about the skills we would need to learn. Prac- tices were fun , although most of the time you wished that you could be somewhere else. The practices finally payed off, however, and we were ready to play the real games once a week. Although I didn't play right away, I soon had my shot.
Being on the team wasn't easy; it re- quired a lot of work, sweat, drive, pain, and patience. Even though it was work, the experience of being a part of team was great!

Our team saved their best 'til last
The 1987 Jr. football season didn't look spectacular in the win/loss columns, with 1 win and 6 losses. However, the coaches were not extremely disappointed with the season. This was a rebuilding year, and the team did improve steadily as the season progressed.
The team didn't win until the final game when they took Innisdale 33 to 27. Losing week after week is damaging to one's self-image. It would have been easy to quit, but about 30 players kept working hard at prac-
tice and didn't give up. Their skill improved. Their con- fidence improved. A win was inevitable. When it came, the excitement of victory was as much fun as winning the Grey Cup.
If the team can take their late season level of play into the beginning of next year, '88 should be a good season.
