We're the ones who think - ''you otta be in pictures ''!
Last summer Dave Currie, Tammy Ward and I travelled to Trent University in Peterborough to attend courses in layout, design and photography in pursuit of learning newer and better techniques in order to produce a Gleaner of superior quality. I was very optimistic when we left, but after we had gone through the town of Argyle four times on our way, doubts were arising. After all, it's safer not to change things. All negative thoughts, however, were quickly erased by the end of the course when the awards were being handed out for excellence in work. I will always remember the pride I felt when Tammy stepped up on the stage to accept her prize of free pages for our book and Dave was awarded first place among over five hundred entrants for his outstanding layout. We began the book on an all-time high and immediately added an incredible pool of talent in the line of photographers, lay- out people and those in the darkroom.
Putting the Gleaner together was a long and difficult job, but with the help of my Gleaner staff, it hardly seemed like a chore. We laughed, we shared ideas and opi- nions, we travelled to workshops, we consumed a lot of pizza and Chinese food late into the night and WE WORKED! Whenever there was a job to be done, there was at least three people wanting to assist. I want to thank each of you for the part that you played in putting the Gleaner together. You were T-E-R-R-I-F-I-C!!!
