Ever since seeing ''Guys and Dolls'' so long ago, I have cherished the thought of being in a school musical and perhaps be given some lines to say
or a song to sing. After a very small, but a "lot-of- fun" type part in "Grease", along came "Our Town Collingwood" and a chance for a leading role. I audi- tioned . . . why not? What was there to loose except pride and self-esteem? When the results were posted, no one was more surprised or happier than I. Now I could look forward to two months of "lunchless" noon hours, long rehearsals and great fun.
The hardest parts to do in the entire show were the fight scenes between "Ted" and "Stephanie" for it was difficult not to laugh at some of the directions that Mr. C. gave yet portray ourselves as being serious. Opening night was nerve-racking as screams of "Don't put so much goo on my face!" were mingl- ed with "My lines . . . I can't remember my lines!" Nevertheless, as the curtain rose, everything seemed to fall together in such a fantastic and wonderful way.
Sadly, closing night came all too soon, and while nerves were calmer, we found ourselves wishing that we had a longer engagement. Whispers of "Do you think that we could go another night?" were cir- culated, but alas, it was not to be.
To resounding applause, ''Our Town Colling- wood'' closed on May 2nd, taking with it incredible fun, terrific new friendships and a great deal of hard work and learning.
My gratitude is extended to "Ted" Knude who was a great leading man, to Mr. C. for being so ter- rific through it all, to Miss Bach for her quiet and kind words of encouragement, to "Miss Apple" for taking me to McCabes and to Mr. Redding for pro- ducing the whole thing.
In addition, I would like to thank all of the people who helped behind the scenes, and most importantly, the audience for laughing in all of the right spots and for just being there!
