                    FORMAL
For weeks my mother worked on my dress so that I could wear it to the formal and finally it was completed. But there were only five minutes before my date was to arrive! I was nervous ... very nervous. I don't normally start to get ready for a date at four in the after- noon. What would he be wearing? Would I need to buy him a boutineer? I needed help so I consulted an expert in the field of social grace and etiquette - Lorraine Davies. Her advice was this: "Let me order the flower for you". Jen McLeod was our chauffeur for the even- ing. She was an excellent choice, yet she refus- ed to wear a uniform. We arrived at the
Alphorn restaurant to meet six other couples for dinner. The atmosphere evoked an association with romance. There were candles, fme food and soft music. It was not wise, however, to have ordered fondue while wearing formal at- tire. Our agenda included a champagne party at Dave Deriver's, but first we had to make a short detour to Jen McLeod's. One of the con- ditions of her being our driver was that her mother would get to see everyone in their 'best'. When we reached the school we found a
'tropical paradise'. The place was hot! . . . it really did feel as though we were in the tropics! We had to keep visiting the courtyard so that we could cool off after dancing to the music of the California Fire Band. At the conclusion of the dance, we all headed home in order to change for the Black Tie Bash at Tyrolia Village. Once everyone was back into their every day attire, they started to act like themselves again. The party was a huge success. Jen McLeod's future as chauffeur expanded as she was appointed
'D.O.' for all party goers. I finally went home at 4:30 and woke up quite early the next day . . . about three in the afternoon!!!

The 1987 Formal was made possible by the greatly appreciated committee of which Maryann Willis was Chairwoman. The theme was 'Urban Tropical', and who better to play at the dance than the California Fire Band? Derek Fryer and Cathy Wilde designed the tickets.
" Thank You " to all of the students who made the effort to help with the Formal.
